holistic medicine for allergies
Have you heard of Skin-Eze or Derma-iONX?

My english staffy has severe skin allergies and is always itching, sore, loosing hair, etc. He see’s a vet on a regular basis and has undergone shots, steroids and other forms of prescribed treatment.
Although he is being medicated he still suffers greatly and I am considering trying natural/holistic medicine.
Have you heard of or had any experience with Skin-Eze (tablets, shampoos, hot spot treatments) or Derma-iONX (oral and skin treatments)?

Have you tried anything else? What has worked for you?

I have not heard of those, but I have had really good luck with Homeopet’s Skin and Sebborhea formula. It is a homeopathic remedy which triggers the body’s natural immune and healing responses.

I would also get your dog on a better food. Because you mentioned how involved your vet is in his case, I’m guessing he’s on a prescription diet? Maybe not, but a lot of people who go to their vets (at least in my area) for allergies get a prescription food and shots.

If this is the case and your pup is still relatively young, I would switch his food. Start off with Natural Balance with venison, duck, whitefish or lamb or Wellness Simple Solutions with duck, salmon, or lamb, or California Natural with lamb or herring. Once you have your dog established on one of these foods, start incorporating a high quality raw food into his diet. I like Primal, Stella and Chewy’s, Bravo, Nature’s Variety, and Nature’s Logic. I say raw food because some dogs are simply intolerant of processed food and will never thrive on it. The less processed the food, the less likely the dog’s body will reject it. So I would very gradually mix in raw, until it makes up the main portion of his diet. He will probably not experience any more hotspots and his hair will grow back. I would still keep a homeopathic remedy on hand for seasonal allergies, but these will most likely be less severe when your dog is one raw.

I would suggest that you stay away from chicken and beef for a while, and only incorporate those back into his diet once he’s stabilized. Find at least 3 proteins that he does well with and switch between them as overexposure to single ingredients can lead to more allergies.
