Treating and Preventing Neuropathy

Neuropathy is a syndrome or symptom that is very difficult to treat. Quantum   Orthomolecular Medicine uses vitamins, minerals, amino acids, herbs and nutritional products have all been used to manage this disease. It is important to try more than one nutritional product to understand whether this is a viable treatment for a person. Try to select a product that combines several vitamins, minerals, and herbs for a well rounded and affordable treatment option.

Herbs may be used to treat neuropathy. These include Angelica, capsaicin or Cayenne, Curcumin. Chinese herbs may be found with English or Latin names in single herb or multiple herb formulas. 5-HTP is an extremely important amino acid that can be used to replace drugs for mild neuropathy in many people.

Nutritional supplements that treat neuropathy include:

  • cayenne pepper
  • vitamin E
  • beta carotene
  • biotin (vitamin H)
  • folate
  • B12 or methylcobalamin
  • B6
  • B1 or thiamine
  • Vitamin D
  • evening primrose oil
  • gamma linolenic acid (GLA)
  • omega-6 fatty acids
  • CoQ10
  • alpha lipoic acid
  • 5 HTP

Amino Acids treating neuropathy include:

  • N-acetylcysteine (NAC)
  • L-Glutamine
  • Acetyl L Carnitine
  • Taurine

Vitamin D promotes neuron growth and repair. Cayenne pepper is a spice and can also be found in capsule for effective pain relief. All omega-6 fatty acids are key in restoring health and treating pain. Take Omega 6 fatty acid supplements, increase cold-water fish like salmon and cod, and add nuts like walnut and almonds to your diet. Evening primrose oil can lower or remove diabetic neuropathy pain due to burning, numbness and pain. The supplements affect the body partially by altering hormones and neurotransmitters.

B vitamins may help people with peripheral neuropathy symptoms. Deficiency of B12 vitamins can result in peripheral neuropathy. Try the sublingual methylcobalamin form of B12 to treat neuropathy. Tingling of the feet or neuropathic foot pain may indicate B12 and folate vitamins are low. Permanent the nerve damage can result if the correct supplements are not taken. Keep in mind that many vitamin and mineral deficiencies may result from a lack of sufficient digestive enzymes. Take digestive enzymes for at least ninety days to evaluate their effectiveness.

Orthomolecular medicine uses acetyl-L-carnitine to regenerate nerves. Acetyl-L-carnitine can regenerate nerves that have been injured and protect nerves from degenerating from trauma. It protects nerves from degenerating in diabetic patients. Acetyl-L-carnitine protects nerves from degenerating from drug and medicine exposure. Taurine, L-Glutamine, and N-acetylcysteine or NAC may also be used to treat neuropathy. It is always important to keep in mind that different diseases cause neuropathy and will be successfully treated with different combinations of the above supplements. Neuropathy caused by cancer will differ from neuropathy caused by diabetes and will respond to different supplements. This approach will equal or surpass the results from using drugs to treat neuropathy.
